Recycling bio-waste

Recycling bio-waste

How will waste management evolve in France in 2026?

At the dawn of each new year, new standards and laws come into force, reshaping various sectors, including ecology. In particular, significant changes are taking shape in waste management and the recovery of bio-waste. This development is particularly commendable, especially considering that food waste makes up around a third of household waste in France, equivalent to 83 kg per capita to be recovered every year.

The major changes in waste management for this year underline the importance of preventing the creation of waste wherever possible. As a result, financial incentives and support for the repair of household appliances and technology are being strengthened and extended. The aim is clear: to encourage repair rather than consumption, thereby reducing the production of new waste.

What are the advantages of recycling bio-waste?

First and foremost, it’s important to remember that biowaste encompasses all fermentable organic waste. In other words, it includes food waste such as peelings, leftovers and expired food, as well as green waste from park and garden maintenance, such as grass, dead leaves, twigs, branches and foliage. Sorting this organic waste at source offers several significant advantages:

Reducing the carbon footprint of waste:
Biowaste contains up to 80% water, making incineration both energy-intensive and pointless. Landfill is not a viable solution either, as it generates methane, a gas harmful to global warming, with an impact 25 times greater than that of CO2.

What are the practical solutions for recycling bio-waste on a daily basis?

Embarking on the biowaste recovery process represents a tangible act in favor of the environment. This approach, adopted by more and more private individuals and professionals, offers a number of concrete solutions:

Domestic Composting:
Composting is a simple, effective and sustainable way of recovering bio-waste. Through the natural decomposition of organic waste, composting transforms this material into a nutrient-rich soil improver, ideal for enriching your garden soil.

How is bio-waste managed at the La Tamarissière eco-chic campsite?

Since the management of La Tamarissière campsite was taken over by the Cottage Parks group, manager of eco-chic campsites in France, the issue of waste management has been at the heart of our concerns and commitments. Indeed, in the heart of this two-hundred-year-old pine forest, preserving the environment and ecosystems is an absolute priority for Cottage Parks.

In 2022, a composter was installed at the entrance to the campsite to recycle the biowaste of campers and residents of La Tamarissière. The composter was positioned in a part of the campsite that was accessible to the public, so that local residents could also benefit from it and participate in the recycling of bio-waste. With the help of Sictom Agde/Pézenas and ADEME (Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise de l’énergie), Cottage Parks and La Tamarissière campsite have created the first public composter in the town of Agde.
